San Diego is one of our fave destinations in So Cal - we've been there a number of times and each time we've managed to do/see something different than the last time.
September 2005:
This was a spur of the moment road trip to help a friend scope out possible places to live in a nearby town. I can't remember the name of it now. Anyway, the places she could afford were a little dodgy but it was a great weekend trip nonetheless. We stayed the night at the Hilton resort near Sea World and made a day of it. It was my first time seeing "Shamu" and there was a baby one at the time too! We did the tourist thing and had "Dinner with Shamu" (approx $40) which provides you with a buffet meal and a "poolside" dinner table. During dinner you are able to see the whales up close and get to ask the trainers questions. It was awesome and I recommend it to anyone going to Sea World. It's a much better experience than standing in long lines for the rides. Seeing the show after hearing about the whales makes you appreciate it more.
