When I first started traveling I tried to pack for every contingence .. if it gets cold, if it rains, an out fit for lounging, one for going out on the town, one for a fancy dinner, one just in case and of course the shoes to match.  Then I would throw in some extra t-shirts, skirt, and pants.  I was still able to everything into a backpack, carry-on, and 1 suite case (very large).  And compared to my travel companions that was light... But I realized that I used ony a third of the clothes I packed, maybe 2 (at the most) of the 6 pair of shoes and it was a pain trying to maneuver airports, planes, trains, hotels, etc with so much baggage.  Antoine de St. Exupery said "He who would travel happily must travel light."  I could not agree more.
